"Why are You Doing This?"

I have been asked a lot of questions lately about this project and wonder why I make recipes about colorful ponies. I am here today to answer that question.

There is a steriotype about the Brony Fan Base, saying that we are crazy, lonely and possibly living in parents basments loathing ourselfs. This is far from the truth. The truth is, Brony's can be anyone. They can be a man or a women, strait or gay, a parent or child, or purhaps a hard working individual trying to climb to the top. All we are just doing is celebrating a show that has a high quality animation, good story andan empowering message of how to love and tolerate each other. Does it really matter whether a show is for girls, boys or adults?

I personoly know other adults who still like cartoons and children who whatch shows like Grey's Anatomy and Seinfeld. (Who shall remain unknown) We live in a time where the world is changing in a dramatic scale. We are starting to realise that its o.k to have different interests outside of our gender and age roles. True, not everyone is open to the idea, but there are people out there who have interests in creating something new and introducing the concept to the world.

This is why the Brony Chef Project stands today. I want to share my ideas to the world and I am not afraid to do so and I am open to other peoples ideas as well. I also want to tell the world that im not obsessed with the Brony culture. I have other interests like Game Grumps, The R.O.C, and my career as a chef/food writer. I still like ponies and the project but I am something a little bit more then a random Brony who writes recipies. I am a Brony Chef.

I just wanted to post this to clarify of who I am, why I am doing this and to expand the idea behind this project. I also want to tell you that I might do some other characters beyond the Pony Universe someday to explore the idea of "Culinary Romanticism". Im still going to finish this project with other characters but I want to explore other characters from other pop culture icons someday and reach to a wider audience. So I want to ask you the readers, what other Characters or Shows you want to see someday on this site? It could be from any show or time period. Just leave me the answer on the comments below or on my Kyle Hedlund Facebook page.

I would also want to share some art work from the lovely http://dawnallies.deviantart.com/ . This was originaly was supossed to be used for the last post but someone else responded first. Yet I still keep my promises to the artists and here it is.

So I now you know who I am. I bid you all a-do for now.

The Brony Chef Project #8 & #9: Princess Celestia and Luna

In mythology from many ancient civilizations, there were gods and immortal beings that sort of explain how the nateral world works. The show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic also has there very own mythology. With creatures such as Timber Wolves to Dragons, the show is filled with immortal beings and fantasy elements that it could possibly compete against the other fantasy culture icons. Anyway, there are two chacters that has the true definition when it comes to fantasy and mythology of the show. Their names are princess Celestia and princess Luna.

In the show, they are the immortal rulers of Equestria. Both of them are the very essence of mythology in the show. While Celestia controls the sun and Luna controls the night, they both have a very strong presence of the land they rule. Even though both of them dont really show up as much , it does give off the theme of the two Alicorns (a combination of a unicorn and peagusus) the fantasy aspect of the show.

They are also a perfect example of a cultural expression known as "fanon" or "fan-character manipulation." Unlike the official or "cannon" characters , the fanon is made through the fans instead of the original creators. An example of this material would be Gamer Luna, Human Celestia and thousands more like this all over the internet. (Note: these are actually tumblers. Google it, I dare you.) This gives a lot of creative room for artists, writers and other fans alike to expand the Brony universe through these "fanon" characters.

As for the recipies, this one is a double header since they go perfectly together. The bitter, dark flavors of the Luna Tart go well with the fruity, bright Celestia's Sunshine Brew. Although the tart was actually used before the project even began. Orriginally the Luna Tart was used for a final exam for my baking class when I started culinary school. It was a rousing success and today, I decieded to share my successful recipie of my professtional career with you. As for the punch, it was inspired from a punch recipe that my mom always makes for parties and other special occasions only my vertion has a special orange twist.

The Luna Tart

Makes 2 9 in Tarts

Crust

7 oz of Butter, softend

1 cup of powdered sugar

7 egg yolks

1 egg

2 cups of all purpose flour

1 cup of bread flour

Filling

20 oz of Dark Chacolate Chips

1 pint of cream

2 tsp of Peppermint extract

1. In a stand mixer, whip the butter and sugar until creamy. (Make sure to scrape the paddle and sides to fully incorporate butter and sugar.)

2. While the keeping the stand mixer on low speed, add one egg yolk into the mixer and let it mix until fully incorperated into the butter. Keep repeating this step until all the egg yolks and the full egg are incorperated. (If you break the egg yolk, just add a little bit of the liquid at a time.)

3. Combine the dry ingrediants on a peice of parchment paper and pour a little bit flour into the butter egg mixture while the mixer is still on low speed. (Keep repeating as same as the eggs until all of the flour is incorporated.)

4. Once dough is formed, place the dough in a plastic bag or container and keep it refridgerated until ready to bake. The dough should last for up to one week.

5. When ready to bake, preheat the oven at 350 F and mold the dough to a tart or pie dish. Place the parchment paper on top of the molded shells and add ceramic pie weights or dried beans on top of the parchment paper. (This ensures the crust to not rise too high and leave room for more filling.) Bake the shells, one at a time, for 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

6. Once the shells are done bakeing and started to cool, melt the chacolate by useing the double boiler method or by microwave. (Make sure you read the instructions on the back of the bag for proper melting instructions.) While the chacolate is still hot, add the peppermint extract and the cream. Whip together until creamy.

7. Once the crusts are fully cooled, add the filling to the shell about 2/3rd full and set it inside the fridge for 1 hour before cutting and serving.

Celestia's Sunshine Brew

2 small or 1 Big pitcher

Punch

24 oz. of Frozen Orange Juice, Concentrated

1Liter of Lemon Lime Soda

16-20 Frozen Strawberries

6 lemon slices

4 lime slices

1. Combine frozen orange juice and the lemon lime soda to the pitcher and stir.

2. Place the Frozen strawberries and citris slices into the punch and serve cold.

I tried to incorperate the theme of "Day and Night" for these two recipies, with Celestia being the simple and bright punch and Luna with the complex and dark tasting tart. With the episode pairings of A Bird in a Hoof (Season1 episode 22) and Luna Eclisped (Season 2 episode 4) they are sure to make the perfect duo for your viewing party or a wonderful dessert.

I want to say a big thank you to http://akili-amethyst.deviantart.com/ for the beautiful stained glass art. She also makes a lot of other stained glass art from the Mane 6 to The princesses and Villains alike. So check her out on the link.

Well it was a long one but it was worth it. I bid you a-do and stay warm out there.

A Quick Note about Season 3

Season 3 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is just around the corner and new adventures and new challenges of the Mane6 would face. With the third season coming out, there is also going to be new material and new character development to catch up on and I will be tracking the new season with careful observation.

I will be more up to date of the new episodes, new information about what the show and characters, and recreating different versions of some the recipes I did in the past. They may not come out as frequently but culinary creativity for me comes in a certain pace and I can not rush perfection.

The post's might not be as frequent, since Im trying to jumpstart my career as a food writer and chef, but there is going to be more, I assure you. There will be more in the future.

This is just a quick update about season three and other information regarding the project. Thank you and have a great day.

The Brony Chef Project #7: Spike

Sometimes the best part of a story is not really the main charcter. Sometimes, the sidekick can make the show and this sidekick is somewhat special, because he is not really a pony. Although he is a significent character altogether and he does have his own episode from time to time. HIs name is Spike, the baby dragon with a ton of spunk and (literaly and figurativly) the fire within.

Spike is only male character (so far) that has any real significance to the show in terms of connecting to a diversity of the audience. He is technically called a "baby dragon" but he is really more of a eleven year old kid. The only reason he is considered a baby dragon is because dragons were always refered to as immortal being's in myth. So he act simular like a tween kid but as a dragon he is still considered as a baby. Although very intelegent and does has that certain supportive nature reflected for being Twilights "#1 assistant".

He might not be one of the elements of hrarmony but he does represent what courage and wisdom can be part of the message. In some episodes where spike is the main focus, he does show that "inner fire" simular to what fluttershy has but in a more expressive and youthful manner. He also represents what growing-up is about and how he faces with certain problems with himself and those around him. You might say he is the unofficial "element of courage and wisdom".

With the idea of the meat pie, it acctually came to me in a different show. I was whatching Alton Brown's Good Eats with the Sweeny Todd episode about meat pies. After I saw the episode, I got this idea that Spike is some what of a pot pie. He is small but firey and does possess a certain hartyness to this menu of light pony dishes. I got the crust from the Alton Brown episode, so I do want to credit him where credit is due . The episode of Alton Brownis posted below if you want to see it.

Spikes Italian Pot Pie

Serves 6

Crust

3 cups of flour

3 Tablespoons of sugar

8 oz of cold butter: Small diced or grated

1/2 cup of cold water

Stew

1/2 an onion: Finely chopped

1 lb. of ground beef

6-8 baby carrots: chopped in half

12 oz of tomato sauce

1 Tablespoon of chopped garlic or 2 cloves, chopped

1 Tablespoon of chili powder

1 Tablespoon of paprika

a pinch of cayenne pepper

1 cup of chicken broth

1 1/2 tablespoons of flour

Dash of Worcheser sauce

1. In a big bowl, combine the flour, sugar and butter into the bowl. (crumble the butter into the flour until flaky.)

2. Add the cold water into the bowl and combine until dough is formed. Set the dough into the refrigerator in a separate bowl or in a plastic bag for about 20 min.

3. In a large skillet, sauté the onions in olive oil for about 2 minutes until onions are transparent. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Combine the spices and add it into the meat. Add chicken broth along with the carrots and the tomato sauce. Add worchestire sauce to season and stir. Bring the heat down to low and let it simmer for ~1 hour.

4. Pre-heat the oven to 350 F. On a floured suffice, cut the dough in half and lightly knead it until flat. Cut the flattened dough into 6 equal squares and cover the bottom of 6 oven-safe ramekins or cups. Place the cups with the dough on a sheet pan or oven-safe casserole dish and bake for 15 min or until the bottoms are lightly golden brown.

5. Add the flour to the stew to thicken and add any desired seasonings to the stew.

6. Take the other half of the dough and flattened the dough on a floured surface. Use a seventh ramekin to cut the dough for the tops of the pies in 6 equal pieces.

7. preheat your oven to 400 F. Let the ramekins with the bottom crust cool for about 3-5 minutes before filling the cups with the stew. Onced cooled, fill the cups with the stew, 2/3 way up. Once filled, place the top crust on top of the stew. Using a fork, poke small holes on top of the pies to prevent over flowing. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until a light golden brown.

8. Once done baking, let the pies cool and serve.

The Episode pairing for this small and spicy pie is Owls Well That Ends Well (Season 1 Episode 24) and Dragon Quest (Season 2 Episode 21). You can also enjoy this in a dinner party setting or to warm yourself up in the cold November air.

Chapter 2 and Episode Pairings

As you may have heard, I have officially finished the Mane 6 recipes featuring all of the main characters of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Since I did the main cast of the show, I decided to separate the rest of the cast into groups or "chapters" based on what their role in the show and the fan base is. Since we covered all of the main characters, the next obvious choice would be the Cutie Mark Crusaders (CMC) and the Side Cast.

The CMC and the side cast are what some call the "Semi-Important" characters or side characters. These pony's (and baby dragon) may not be part of the main cast but still have a big role to the show. In fact, they do have some episodes based on the side character's: some more than others.

Since the CMC is too small of a group to have their own chapter, I would have to combine some of the other side characters to make it a more complete chapter. To make sure that there is no confusion of what constitutes a side character with a vast cast, I decided to use some guide lines for the most significant side character list.

1. They must have an influence to the show. This can include there own episodes or as a speaking part that clearly has an effect of the story.

2. They must have a story to go with the character. An example would be how Apple Bloom met Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle to form the Cutie Mark Crusaders or how Spike ends up being Twilights assistant.

3. It must be a character that has been originated for the show as a speaking part. Through out the entire Brony fan base, there are OC or Other Characters for short and there are hundreds of thousands OC's that the fans created and it would be impossible to make a recipe for every single one. Although, I will create a future chapter for some of the Brony artists and fan inspired characters in the future. For now, I'm focusing more on the show characters to have a base for future chapters.

With the guide lines in place, I am ready to start on chapter 2 of the Brony Chef Project. But before I go, I do want to add a new feature to the recipes that might spice thing's up a little bit. You have heard of wine pairings with food and certain flavor pairings, but now there is a new type of pairing to the food world known as Episode Pairings. It is only fitting for a cookbook project about a show to pair with some episodes from that show. Not only do the recipes match with the character with that focus of the episode but they are also enjoyable to experience with friends and family. Here are a few pairings to go with the Mane Six recipes that was recently completed.

Applejack: apple marinated skirt steak and "bucked-up" apples- Apple Bucking season (Season 1 Episode 5) and The Super Speedy Cider Squeezey 6000

Pinkie Pie: white chocolate mocha raspberry truffles with pink sugar- Party of One (Season 1 Episode 25) and Baby Cakes (Season 2 Episode 13)

Rainbow Dash: Sonic Rainboom Stir fry- Sonic Rainboom (season 1 episode 16) and The Mysterious Mare Do Well (Season 2 episode 8)

Rarity: Cucumber Canapé with herbed cream and black berry- A Dog and Pony show (Season 1 Episode 19) and Sweet and Elite (Season 2 Episode 9)

Fluttershy: Vegan Tomato soup- Dragon shy (Season 1 Episode 7) and Hurricane Fluttershy (Season 2 Episode 22)

Twilight Sparkle: Baked Salmon salad dressed in a dill vinaigrette- Boast Busters ( Season 1 Episode 6) and Lesson Zero (Season 2 Episode 3)

These are only the few episodes that pair with each dish, but with any other episode would also be equally enjoyable. I just choose the episodes I believe would be the best to eat as a meal or get-together . For now I believe it is time for me to start the second chapter of this project.

The Brony Chef Project #6: Twilight Sparkle

We finally reached to the last of the Mane Six. She is the leader and the main focal point of the show all together. She is the "Magic" in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Her name is Twilight Sparkle and she is heart and soul of the Mane Six.

Twilight Sparkle is a unicorn who is intelegent, kind and always curious about how the world works. Her element is called magic but it's really called freindship. She is socially awkward, but she does care about about her friends and how freindship works. As soon as you see the first episode of the series, you start to realize she's not the ussual main chracter for a styriotype of a little girl show. She is a realist in a fantasy world. A strange combination of mytical and yet still be able to relate to the othe charaters. Its somewhat strange but that is what makes Twilight an intelegent charater. The fact that she is in a kid show but still mature enough to face problems adults face everyday, wheather emotionally or socially. That is whats truly sets her apart from the other mane six: her ability to keep the focus of the show, while still keeping the othermembers of the mane six a big roles in the series.

Through out season one, she was ussually the main focus since she sends letters to Princess Celestia about her findings of friendship. (Princess Celestia would appear in a later post.) But since "Lesson Zero" (Season 2 episode 3), Twilight became somewhat more equal with the Mane 6. True, she does appear in most of the episode's and she is still an important character to the show, but she isnt the real focus all the time. That is the main reason why I think's makes a good character in general. The fact that the one in charge can still give the spotlight to others and take control without takeing out the focus of the main charater.

I can talk about Twilight Sparkle all day, but I think it would do justice to begin the recipe. For this recipie, I think it replicates the simplicity of her practicle mind with the beutiful melody of classic flavors to this mystical entree. Its a healthy meal and its satisfying to enjoy this a meal or as a star of your buffet in a bigger scale.

Twilight Sparkles Baked Salmon Salad

serves 4

Baked Salmon

4 6 oz salmon filets

olive oil to drizzle

1/2 cup of white wine

salt and pepper to season

Salad

20 oz of spinach and arugula

4 Basil Leaves, chopped

Dressing

2 tsp of white wine vinegar

~1-2 oz of dijon mustard (~1tsp)

4 oz of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 tsp of dill

1. Preheat the oven to 450 F. Cover your sheet pan or casserole dish with tin foil and drizzle olive oil on top of the foil covered pan to prevent sticking.

2. Place the salmon on the oiled pan without touching each other. Pour the white wine on top and around the salmon. Season the fish lightly.

3. Once the oven is preheated, bake the fish for 14-15 minutes.

4. While the salmon is cooking, prepare the salad on a platter or on a nice big plate. (make sure the vegitables are fresh.)

5. Create the dressing by combineing the vinigar and mustard in a small bowl and stream the olive oil slowly while wisking the mixture. Keep on wisking until the dressing is incorperated. Add more oil if needed. Add the dill last and stir to incorperate.

6. Once the salmon is done, let the fish cool for 5 minutes to prevent wilting of the salad. Place the salmon on top of the salad, drizzle the dressing on top and on the side, place the basil leaves on for garnish and serve warm.

This is a dish you can make for not only parties, but as a good meal for the family to enjoy. From personal experience with Twilights Salmon alongside with Fluttershy's soup, it is a perfect combination for a good wholsome meal.

A special thanks to http://peachspices.deviantart.com/ for the artwork. Support the independant artist movment going on at Deviant art and checking out the great gallery's. Who knows, you artwork maybe featured on this website.

We have reached to the end of the Mane Six but that does not mean it is the end. There are still so many characters to cover, it somewhat intimitating of how much work and effort I must put in to make this project successfull. Although, I think I could possibly grow from this experience as a chef and as a food writer. I know that my charater annalisis is not perfect and somewhat more a perspecitive peice, but I think it works on certain levles that Brony's amd home cooks alike can appriciate.

With that in mind, have a magical day and keep on cooking.

The Brony Chef Project #5: Fluttershy's Animal Friendly Vegan Tomato Basil Soup

Kindness can take many different forms in our life. Sometimes we can relate to a person or a character as "the symbol of kindness." Fluttershy is a character that is a true definition of this basic human nature of compasstion. True she is shy, as the title implys, but she makes up for it for compastion and tolerance twords others.

Fluttershy is the element of kindness in the Elements of Harmony. Her passion for animals reflects her kindness towards her freinds and to those around her. Her shyness does compromise her social skills, yet she does possess a tolerence for anyone or any creature to become tranquil with her soothing presence. She is a someone who appears to be weak but she is also strong on the inside with her "inner beast" when the situation calls for it. One of the first examples of her inner bravery was in Dragonshy (season 1 episode 7) when Fluttershy over came her fear of giant dragon's and told off this dragon that was poluting equestria with smoke. She is an enviormentlist, humanitarian (or "ponyterian"), and has the kindness to a degree that makes others kind as well.

The soup for Fluttershy came up when the fall air was getting colder and everyone preparing for the winter ahead. At first, I wanted to make a floral fruit salad but I want to embrace her warm motherly side. In the show, she treats the animals and mythical beats as like her children and I wanted to capture that motherly embrace twords the animals she cares for. So, I decieded to make a vegan soup to have the motherly embrace, while still keeping it light and naturally free spirited. For this recipie, there are two ways to purée the soup and if you don't have a immersion blender but want to have one, you can find one at any kitchen supply store.

Fluttershy's Animal Freindly Vegan Tomato Basil Soup

Serves ~12 bowls

Soup

10 plumb tomatos, cut into small chunks

12 oz of tomato sauce

1 cup of vegitable stock or broth

3/4 of a white onion, finely chopped or minced

2 Tsp of extra virgin olive oil

3 basil leaves (substitute: 1 Tsp dried Basil)

Salt and pepper to taste

1. With a big stock or soup pot, coat the bottom of the soup pot with olive oil over medium high heat. Sautee the onions in the pot until softened.

2. After the onions are startig to become translucent, cook the chopped tomatos in the pot with the onions for about 2 minutes. Add the tomato sauce and vegitable broth. Bring it to a boil and lower the heat to simmer for 10 minutes.

3. With an imertion blender, blend the soup until liquified or no chunks are left over.

4. Take the chopped basil and mix in with the soup until incorperated. Keep it on a simmer for 2 hours for highest quality soup.

5. Once in a while, check the soup and skim the soup to remove the foamy skum on top. (Skimming gives the soup a more clean and smooth texture.) Season the soup with salt and pepper to taste and serve the soup with some crusty bread or a nice salad in a big bowl with some curly parsely to garnish.

Blender Method: Take the soup mixture and pour it into a blender and blend until liquifed or no chunks are left over. Return the soup to the pot and bring it back to a simmer.

Storage tip: Let the soup cool until room tempreture before refridgerating. This would help cool the soup in the fridge faster to make the fridge work less and raise the power bills.

The best part about this recipe is that it is all natural and vegan. So if you have a friend who is a vegetarian or vegan, this is the perfect warm up for the cold winter ahead. You can also enjoy it with a good salad or a sandwich with anything on it without the extra calories from other cream based soups.

I would like to thank http://datnaro.deviantart.com/ for providing the artwork for this post.Check out his other artwork at the link.

I hope you enjoy this special vegan recipe of the Brony Chef Project and I bid you all a-do. Also, stay warm this fall and winter it's going to be a cold one.

The Brony Chef Project #4: Rarity

She is truly a gem to many who watch My Little Pony: Freindship is Magic and somebody worth mentioning. She is the Queen of class and she is always the one with the "gemstone chic'" style. She is stlylish, sopisticated and the sametime generous with to the world and her friends around her. She is the one and only Rarity.

Rarity is an unicorn who is the most feminen but she is more mature one out of the Mane Six. She is the element of generosity and she alwayswilling to give who is less fortunate then her. She keeps her head high in Canterlot while she keeps her roots of friendship in Ponyville. You might say, she is has royal standards but she still gives you a chance to be in the same room with her. She is also high demanding when it comes to her work as a dress maker and avoids anything that is uncivilized and messy. Yet she always gives respect and understanding to those around her. She can be devine without excluding anyone.

This recipie is perfect for parties around the house or on some other potluck situation. You don't have to be a gourmet chef to make this and it is super easy to assemble. If your not familiar with hor' derves, a canapé is an appetizer that has a solid foundation (traditionally a cracker) with a topping or some other small food item that people can "pop" into there mouth as a quick snack. With this canapé, its somewhat of a reinvention of the traditional English cucumber tea sandwich (without the bread and gluten) that fits Rarity's sophisticated background. The cream represents her smoothed out attitude to other pony's but has a little bite from the salt to reflect her "appropriate anger" to those who wrong her or her friends. The seasonal fruit on top is more for decoration but it is the perfect season for blackberries and you can add any other seasonal berry or thin peice of fruit on top for a fresher flare.

Rarity's Royal Canapés

Serves ~20 Canapés

Canapé

1 Cucumber; sliced in rounds 16-20 slices

a few black berries for garnish or any other seasonal fruit, cut in half or thinly

Herbal Cream Base

4 oz of Cream Cheese

2 oz of sour cream

2 Tps of minced chives

2 1/2 Tps of Dill weed

a pinch of sea salt

1. In a small bowl, mix together the cream cheese and sour cream to create the base. Add the herbs one at a time and mix into the base. Add the salt to taste and mix until incorporated. Place the mixture inside your refrigerator for later use.

2. Once ready to serve, place the cucumber slices on a platter and dollop the cream mixture on top of the cucumber slice or use a plastic bag with the left tip cut off to pipe the mixture on the slice. Place the peice of fruit on top for garnish and serve.

Fall/Winter

Summer

This appetizer has the sophistication of a high society garden party, while its easy enough to make for any party or get together. This recipe is also my formula for all cool, cream based appetizers. IN other words, you can use the cream base and customize it to creat your own canapé or some other creation involving a creamy topping.

A big thank you to http://bioniclegahlok.deviantart.com/ for providing the artwork for Rarity. He's been doing art work on Deviant Art for four years and he's really talented. With that in mind, I say "thank you" to bioniclegahlok.

I hope you enjoy the fourth installment of the Brony Chef Project. I have only about two more characters until I covered the Mane Six. Don't worry though, there will be more. Don't forget to comment below and on Facebook. There is also a reaction box below to see what you think of these points, so don't forget to click.

For now, I bid you a-do and treat yourself like a king/queen once in a while.

The Brony Chef Project #3: Rainbow Dash

Whats interesting about this character is that she is a symbol of the growing Brony fandom and the message of "love and tolerance" behind the fan base. She is bold, adventurous and would never back down from a challenge. Shes is the new and improved, Rainbow Dash. Shes the one that puts the "Pow!" in the current pony generation and makes it more action packed then your average T.V show for little girls. She is the heroine of the Bronies and the most courageous out of any other character.

Rainbow Dash is a pegasus who is athletic, determined and somewhat reckless to be the best flyer of all of Equestria. She represents the element of Loyalty and she's willing to stay with her freinds until the very end. Although sometimes she may become lazy but she does have determination to follow through on her promises. Her dream is to fly with the Wonderbolts, a team of elite flyers similar to the Blue Angles in air shows around the country. Her loyalty not only focuses on her dream to become a Wonderbolt, but on her friends as well: especially to Fluttershy. She is always there to help her friends for anything and will always follow through her promises.

For this dish, I decided to go simple but bold for Rainbow Dash. Actually, this dish was inspired by the episode "Sonic Rainboom" (season 1 episode 16) where she redifined all odds to perfect not only her potential but gain the motivation to go above and byond. I want it to reflect her courageous nature and the fire within herself by adding many spices and the Teriyaki sauce for a sweet and spicy combination for her to be bold but approachable. I also made it healthy for her athletic nature and simple for anyone to make it for a great meal at a low cost.

"Sonic Rainboom" Stir fry

Serves 6

Stir fry

3-4 Chicken breasts, cut into cubes, cooked (Leftover cooked Chicken breast works as well)

1 Zucchini, chopped

1 yellow squash, chopped

1/2 an onion, roughly diced or chopped

2 green bell peppers, chopped

1 red bell pepper, chopped

Extra Light olive oil

Spices

Dry

a pinch of cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon each of paprika, curry powder, and chili powder

Wet

1/4 cup of Teriyaki Sauce

1. Chop the vegetables into a rough, even chunks. Combine the vegetables into a plastic bag and store into the refrigerator until later use. You can store this mixture for up to 3 days.

2. Combine dry spices into a small bowl. Adjust seasonings to your liking.

The Brony Chef Project #2: Pinkie Pie

This next character is somewhat of an icon for the Brony's and for some reason the official merchendise of the show. She's only 1/6 of the Mane 6 but she always the center of attention when it comes to the comedic aspect of My Little Pony: Freindship is Magic. She is the master of laughter and has the enthusiasm of 1000 cups of sugar. Im talking about the one and only Pinkie Pie. She is the one of the best examples of cartoon insanity and what gives the show more spunk in every gag she pulls out. She somewhat resembles the spiritural successer of Genine from Aladdin, in terms of the classic, reality bending comic relief. But enough about Pinkie's success; let see what makes pinkie, the pink pony of laughter, a delight to all.

Pinkie Pie is an earth pony who is always upbeat and somewhat crazy of how she veiws the world around her. She is element of laughter of the mane 6 and always see every positive in a negative situation. She never gives up on finding happiness and finds it in the most unexpected way. True, there were times where she was depressed (Episode 19 Season 1 "Party of One") but somehow she manages to get her "poof" back and continue's to make everyones day a bright one. She is also a little ecentric when it comes to her freinds and how freindship works but she does mean well. She is the sunshine for many and a fine example of how to find happiness in everyones life.

This dessert reflects not only her upbeat outlook on life but also her hyper activity and ecentric personality. It has the sweetness of rasberry to reflect her lighter side and some stong coffee to give the truffles a little kick of bitterness and caffeinated insanity.

Pinkie Pie Poppers (Rhasberry White Mocha Truffles)

Makes ~20-30 truffles

Truffles

11oz or 1 bag of White Chocolate Chips

1 tsp of Raspberry extract

1/2 cup of cold coffee

1/4 pint of Half and Half

Coating

1/4 cup of granulated surgar

red food coloring

1. Melt the Chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. (Make sure you check the instructions on the bag of how long and how powerful you need to set the microwave to melt the chacolate.)

2. While the Chocolate is melting, pour the sugar and 2 drops of red food coloring into a plastic bag. Then rub and shake the bag until the sugar turns pink.

3. When the chocolate is melted, add the half and half, the extract and coffee to the chocolate. Mix until thick and creamy. (If the mixture is to tough to stir, add more half and half.)

4. Using a spoon or an ice cream scoop, scoop up the chocolate and roll them in the pink sugar on a shallow plate. Keep rolling truffles until finished.

5. Serve at room temperature on a platter or until hardened.

This dessert is perfect to keep the party going or to have a sweet treat to brighten up your day. Its also the perfect accompany ment for a nice cup of coffee to give it an extra kick for when you need it.

The Brony Chef Project #1: Applejack

This is actually the first recipe for this project I tested for The Brony Chef Project. It took some planning and careful observation but, I think I go my first successful creation. This recipe is the perfect excuse to bring the grill back outside in the fall air to have that last taste of char of the grill.

Applejack is an earth pony who is an apple farmer on the beautiful Sweet Apple Acres in the small town of Ponyville. She is the most down to earth and the honest one of the Mane 6. She is always truthful, hardworking, and faithful to anyone who needs her.

Applejack is also one of the most athletic of the group of main characters. Her legs are renowned as one the strongest in all of Equestria. Sometimes she does burn out from working too hard but her strength of years of apple bucking, makes her one of my favorite characters of the show. Oddly enough, she resembles myself as part of the hardworking workforce of the culinary world.

As for the recipe, I deiced to take somewhat of southwestern approach to Applejack since she is rustic in nature. It is very simple and very easy recipe who wants to learn how to grill. You can prepare everything ahead of time and makes a great meal for get together and meet ups a-like.

Applejack's Skirt steak and "Bucked-up" Apples

Serves 4 or 12 strips and 8 apple half's

Skirt Steak

1 lb. of Skirt Steak

2 cups of Apple Juice

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

a sprinkle of nutmeg

a dash of chili powder

Bucked-up Apples

4 apples, cored and cut in half

4 strips of bacon cut in half

2oz of Crumbled blue cheese or Gorgonzola

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

1. Place Skirt Steak in a 4x4 container or a large plastic bag and combine the apple juice and spices to create the marinade. Pour the marinade in the container or bag and let the steak marinate for a minimum of 4 hours or over night wrapped in tin foil or plastic wrap.

Applejack's Apple Marinated Skirt Steak and "Bucked-up" Apples
2. While the steak is marinating, take the cored ,cut apples and poke 6 small indents on the inside part of the apple slice. (These would work as an access point for the bacon fat to seep into the apple). Squeeze the lemon juice on to the apples to prevent browning and store them in the refrigerator for later.
3. Prepare and heat up your grill 15-30 minutes prior to grilling. Refer to the instructions in your grill instruction manual for proper heating instructions.

4. Once the steak is done marinating, remove the steak from the container and shake out any excess marinade to prevent flare ups on the grill. Set it aside on a separate plate until your ready to grill.

5. Grill the steak on both sides until the steak has a deep, caramelized brown color or until desired doneness. Once the doneness of the steak has achieve, place the steak on the side and let it rest at room temperature for 3-5 minutes for the juices inside the steak to lock in the moisture.

6. For the apples, cook the bacon in a pan until the bacon to released the fat. Remove the bacon on the side when bacon is fully cooked. Place the strips on a plate lined with a paper towel.

7. Place each apple skin side down on a baking sheet and place the bacon strips in the middle of the apple slice. Sprinkle the cheese on top of the apple (as little or as much as you want).

8. Set your oven broiler to medium or to medium high and broil your apples until the cheese melts and the bacon is crispy. (About 5 minutes, depending on your oven)

9. Ounce the apples are done, cut the skirt steak into strips and serve with the apples.

You can also make the apples separately to make a hearty appetizer or just cook the steak to make a nice beef sandwich.

The inspiration for the steak was to represent Applejack's earthy nature. The skirt steak can be tough at first, but with a little time and hard work, It can become nice and tender. As for the apples, its an obvious reminder of her passion for apples and to give it the hardiness of Applejack's determination. It is perfect for this time of year when the whether is becoming cooler and the harvesting season for apples are in full swing. So if you have a who bunch of apples and in the mood for beef, Applejack's Skirt steak and Bucked-up apples is just the thing you need for the cool whether and crisp air.

Well this the first post of the Brony Chef Project. Tell me what you think and leave a comment below or on Facebook. Just look for Kyle Hedlund.

The Brony Chef Project: Introduction

This is the first official post of the Brony Chef Project. This project is somewhat of a new venture when I started it on chefkyro.blogspot.com. It was a new experiment and I decided to give it a new home to make room for more culinary literature and other subjects for future writing projects. Anyway, This post and the next 3 recipes came from chefkyro.blogspot.com and there will be more in the future. Although, if you wish to checkout my other writing pieces of work you can check out my other website for more stories and other pieces of work.

This project is not only a nod to the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" and the fan base, the project is also an experiment of a new concept I like to call "culinary romanticism." Instead of cooking with ingredients because its part of flavor or texture, I decided to cook with the ingredients for its personality and characteristics. You might say I'm composing dishes as the similar to creating a character for a story. So through out this entire project, I will go through a list of characters from the "mane 6", the cutie mark crusaders, the side characters, villains and some characters that the fan base gave life too (That would be in the later post's of the project.) and create new dishes based on the characters.

For the posts of the project, there will be a short profile of the character based on my observations of the show and the various fan fictions, videos and other art forms through out the fan base. The order of what the characters appearing on the website would be random depending on what ideas have appeared at the time. I do understand that some people have different views of the characters and the show. This is only my version of the recipe and my own perspectives of the characters. If you have an opinion on how to improve the recipe or any other versions of the recipes, feel free to comment on this website or on Facebook.

If you wish to contribute to the project, such as suggesting a recipe for a particular character or anything related to the show, I am open to give feed back. You can also develop your own recipe and I will be happy to present to that recipe on the website.

If your also wondering if this is the only thing I will post on here, don't worry I will still add some other editorials, protest updates and many other stories on this website to continue my journey. This is another project to help this website to grow into something special.

I also want to say that this is my own original work and please don't steal any of the material from these recipes. You can use the recipes and get some inspiration from here, just make sure to give credit were credit is due.

One final thing I ask for all of you reading this, please share the recipes, the website and everything on here with everyone you know. There are thousands or perhaps millions of bronies and pegasisters who will love these recipes and be inspired to cook such fantastic meals for everyone to enjoy. On that note, I declare this project has COMMENCED and will see you on the next post.

A New Home for the Brony Chef Project

As some of you might know from my other website, I decided to move the project to this site where other readers, cooks and Bronies alike. For those of you who are new to my work, I want to welcome you to what I call the Brony Chef Project.

There will be an introduction post to this website soon but this is just the first post to introduce you to the project. This not only a nod to the Bronies out there, it is also an experiment in a new concept I want to call "culinary romanticism." This would be further explained in the introduction post a little bit later.

For now, I just want to introduce you to the new home of "The Brony Chef Project."
